State and Local SoMIRAC Awards
The following state awards may be given each year at the annual state conference. Some or all awards may also be given by the local reading councils each year. Those include the following:
Local Service
This award recognizes a local council member who has demonstrated an exemplary service and/or project that promotes literacy at the local, state, or international level.
Citation of Merit
This award recognizes a member of SoMIRAC for unusual and distinguished service to the State of Maryland International Reading Association Council. The award winner may not be a sitting Executive Board member.
Media
This award recognizes an individual or organization, who displays outstanding reporting in newspapers, magazines, radio, or television, promoting:
- Reading and literacy;
- The value of reading in today's society; and/or
- Reading as a lifetime habit.
Friend of Reading
This award recognizes a significant contribution to the field of reading and literacy by a business or community organization.
Literacy
This award recognizes an individual, organization, or institution that has made significant literacy contributions at the state level.
President's
This award recognizes the outgoing SoMIRAC President for services rendered to the organization.
