Purpose
The purpose of the council shall be:
- to encourage the study of reading problems at all educational levels
- to stimulate and promote research in reading
- to study the various factors that influence progress in reading
- to publish the results of pertinent and significant investigations and practices
- to assist in the development of high quality teacher-training programs
- to disseminate knowledge helpful in the solution of problems related to reading
- to sponsor conferences and meetings to implement the purpose of the council and national association
- to foster mutual understanding and cooperative work among educators in Pre-K, elementary grades, middle school, high school, college, adult education, and in leadership positions
- to encourage a habit of life-long reading
- to promote advocacy for legislative issues with policy markers, the media and local communities
