Joseph J. Fox Memorial Member Scholarship

                                    

Dear Members: 

 The SoMIRAC Scholarship Committee is publicizing one scholarship award of $1,000.00 to be distributed this fall to one member in good standing in a local reading council. The scholarship is provided for a member who is promoting literacy in the state of Maryland.  The SoMIRAC Scholarship, founded several years ago, was renamed the Joseph Fox, Jr. Memorial Scholarship upon the death of our State Coordinator, Jack Fox. 

Attached please find criteria sheets with requirements. The only way the graduate scholarships will be advertised is through your council. 

Applicants may send their completed forms to Bonnie Schmeltz, postmarked by July 31, 2012.  Thank you for your support and cooperation with this request.

Joseph Fox, Jr. Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is for the amount of one thousand dollars ($1,000.00).  The SELECTED RECIPIENT WILL RECEIVE THE SCHOLARSHIP AT THE FALL SOMIRAC BOARD MEETING


Graduate Scholarship Criteria

  1. Must be a member in good standing of SoMIRAC
  2. Must be accepted and enrolled as a graduate or post-graduate student at and accredited college or university or involved in a project that promotes literacy.
  3. Must major in Reading or a reading-related field such as English, or be conducting research or be participating in a literacy endeavor that benefits reading education.
  4. If furthering their career the individual must have maintained a GPA of 3.0 as a graduate or post-graduate student
  5. Must document current or previous participation in state or local reading council activities as well as current or previous community service or reading related activities
  6. Must submit a completed application by the scholarship deadline following the enclosed rubric.
