Dear Guidance Counselor,
Several Years ago our state reading association initiated a scholarship fund to encourage and support students who were interested in pursuing a teaching career. In the past, we have depended on local reading councils to help spread the word about the award. Now, we are asking for your support in publicizing this scholarship fund.
As noted in the information packet, the Joseph Fox, Jr. Memorial Scholarship awards $2,000.00 to Maryland high school recipients who plan to major in reading or a reading-related field and pursue coursework that will prepare him/her for a teaching career.
Students interested in applying for this scholarship should go to www.somirac.org (click on resources) for further information. To assist the applicant in completing all the necessary documentation, a verification form is attached which does require a signature and date by an employee of the student’s school.
